Kristi BiezaiteĀ (b. 1978) is a textile artist of Latvian and Estonian heritage based in Robe, South Australia. After moving to Australia in 2010, she established a practice shaped by both her Baltic cultural heritage and the Australian landscape. Influenced by an upbringing in Latvia, where creativity and the natural world are deeply valued, her slow, process-led work explores themes of connection to place, people, and the environment. Often working with natural materials and traditional textile processes, she examines the relationship between material, making, and audience to evoke a sense of belonging.
While grounded in textiles, Kristi continues to expand her practice beyond traditional techniques and disciplinary boundaries. Her work has been exhibited in regional exhibitions and local galleries, and she is a finalist in the International Textile Arts Biennale 2025, a participant in Nebula 2025, and the recipient of theĀ Breaking Ground 2027 award. She has also received several awards, including the Southern Ocean Art 2D Category Prize (2016, 2019), the Local Photography Award (2019), the Penola/Coonawarra Arts Festival Design Prize (2019), and the Belinda Morgan Criterion Cottage Award (2023). She holds a Bachelor of Design from Swinburne University of Technology.
